Recently I listened to a song by Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) titled "Instead of a Show." This is really an amazing song. It's lyrics are based on a passage from Isaiah 1: 11-17. Part of that passage reads:
"Quit your worship charades.
I can't stand your trivial religious games:
Monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetings—
meetings, meetings, meetings—I can't stand one more!
Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!
You've worn me out!
I'm sick of your religion, religion, religion,
while you go right on sinning.
When you put on your next prayer-performance,
I'll be looking the other way." - this was taken from The Message translation
Coming from a very strong religious background this really hits home with me, even more so because I just started participating in Worship at my church. I have to constantly check and ask myself "Why am I on stage? Am I really worshipping or am I up here just going through the routines?"
anyways, thats it, just something I've been convicted about lately.
Keep it real.
